The flash write was a quick write activity conducted during a writing group session. Given a sheet of paper with the words “mistakes are proof that you are trying,” participants were told to simply write. The poem sums up my life’s interaction with the 8 letter word in plural form.
Mistakes
Mistakes
Mistakes
I have made so many, I definitely can’t recount.
Mistakes are paradoxical.
Mistakes are vicious.
Mistakes keep the Red Sea dense, seeming impossible to cross.
Mistakes have a demonic voice.
Mistakes are bitter.

However, if I look at them upside down.
If I look side ways.
If I take a panoramic view, the reciprocal appears.
The paradox is evident.
Mistakes foreshadow the effort taken reflecting what is to come:
The crystal stair climbed
The landings that I’ve turned
The splinters that pierced
The heights that frightened
The curves that confused

(inspired by Langston Hughes)
My mistakes, your mistakes and our mistakes bred the resiliency that ushered me and ushered you to a resounding destination FULL OF HOPE.
