A flash write is a piece written in a “flash.” This particular flash write was written during a writing group session. Given a sheet of paper with the words “mistakes are proof that you are trying,” participants were told to simply write. Here’s what came off the top of my head:
Fear of making a mistake has often caused me to sit like a little girl trapped in a box. Comparing myself to others, fear given an audible voice, “I could never speak in front of a crowd like that, so fluent and articulate. I could never be separated from the multitude as “great.”
-
“But He picked me from the multitude. Why?”
-
The woman called to empower others with her words is yet terrified of spoken words. Father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, great-grandfather, great-grandmother urge her to take her place. They stood and they still stand in her heart so that she may take her place. Questioning first, she says,
-
“But when the words come out of my mouth I will make a mistake.”
-
She is always on the sideline and never at the forefront seen by others as the shy quiet girl. Inside, however, there is a lioness ready to roar.
-Try? Proof!
“I am my worst enemy.”
